Gopal Bhar was a legendary court jester in medieval Bengal who served Raja Krishnachandra, the 18th-century king of Nadia. So gifted was Gopal that the king counted him as a Navaratna of his court. His statue remains in the palace, and his exploits are still told in Bengal today.
