Gopal Bhar was a legendary court jester in medieval Bengal, serving in the court of Raja Krishnachandra, the king of Nadia in the 18th century. The king valued him as a Navaratna, and his statue still stands in the palace. His exploits are still told in Bengal and live on in many short stories.
