Nimue returns to Avalon and is found by Merlin. Derfel and Owain seek taxes from King Cadwys, but he sends Owain to raid a nearby mine instead, and the raid turns violent. Merlin learns Nimue is pregnant and will not help her abort, so she flees Avalon. Gundleus returns with Gorfydd to Caer Cadarn.
