In a highly competitive, tiebreak-heavy opening round at Roland-Garros, American qualifier Nishesh Basavareddy pulled off a major upset by defeating 7th seed Taylor Fritz in four sets. Basavareddy claimed the first two sets in tight tiebreaks and, despite dropping a marathon third-set tiebreak, dominantaly sealed his victory with a 6-1 scoreline in the fourth.
