Bayern Munich put in a dominating performance on Matchday 1 as they defeated Barcelona 3-0 to kick start their 2021/22 UEFA Champions League season. Bayern took the lead in the 34th minute with Thomas Muller scoring from distance after his shot took a huge deflecting off Eric Garcia and ended up in the back of the net. The visitors doubled their lead in the 56th minute, and it was none other than Robert Lewandowski scoring as the striker was the first to react to a rebounded shot that came off the post following a shot from Jamal Musiala. Lewandowski doubled his tally and made it 3-0 late in the match, pouncing on another rebounded shot after Serge Gnabry's initial effort came off the post.
